It aims to provide free transportation for Students with Disabilities (SWDs), mainly wheelchair users, from their home or another meeting point to a Department/School of the University of Athens and vice versa, using a specially designed vehicle of the Accessibility Unit, in order for SWDs who have difficulty in their transportation to participate in their courses and exams.
The availability and scope of the SWD Transportation Service depend on the respective availability (number and specialties) of appropriate personnel in the Accessibility Unit and always within the framework of the “reasonable adjustments” defined by Greek Law 4074/2012 (article 24, paragraph 5).
The transportation of SWDs is possible only when their place of residence is within a reasonable distance from the University. In the event that the distance in kilometers between a student’s home and his/her place of study is significantly large, then, in consultation with the Transportation Service, a central public transport station (metro, bus, tram, etc.) is designated as the transfer point.
Priority to the Transportation Service is given to undergraduate Student students who are wheelchair users, followed by those with severe mobility disabilities. Postgraduate students are served, provided that the Transportation Service has the capacity, without disrupting the undergraduate students’ schedule.
Students wishing to receive support from the Transportation Service must fill in the Student’s Activity and Participation Restrictions’ Registration Form (ReF) and apply for transportation every semester. The Transportation Request Form must be submitted at the beginning of each semester, after the time schedule has been announced, and before every exam period, after the exam schedule has been announced.
SwD can submit the Transportation Request Form in the following ways:
- fill in the PDF file “Transportation Request Form” and send it per e-mail to access@nulluoa.gr or
- print, fill in and submit the “Transportation Request Form” to the Accessibility Unit in person or
- fill in the “Transportation Request Form” through telephone communication with the Accessibility Unit’s employee responsible for the Transportation Service ( +30 210 7275183).
