Registration of students to the Accessibility Unit

The procedure followed by Students with Disabilities and Special Educational Needs (SWD&SEN) to register with the Accessibility Unit in order to receive reasonable accommodations for their studies and Accessibility Services provided by the Unit is the same for everyone:
  1. The first step is to log in to the https://myaccess.uoa.gr system using their academic credentials. After logging in, select the “Student Registration Application” from the menu. There, the SWD&SEN student enters their details and attaches the necessary supporting documents:
    • a) A recent passport-style photograph.
    • b) Diagnostic documents in PDF format:
      • i. A recent diagnostic document stating the disability and/or special educational needs, issued either by a public authority (e.g. the Disability Certification Center) or by a university institution, and
      • ii. detailed relevant medical reports and/or a detailed assessment report of their skills (e.g. learning, cognitive, motor, communication, and social skills). In the case of submitting a document issued by the Disability Certification Center, the Medical Conditions Assessment File, as well as the relevant medical reports, MUST also be submitted.
  2. Next, a meeting (in person or remotely) with a member of the Unit staff is scheduled, with the aim of discussing in detail the student’s activity barriers and participation restrictions in academic life and completing the Student Activity and Participation Restrictions Recording Form in myAccess. During this meeting, all the Accessibility Services that the Unit can provide will also be presented to the SWD&SEN student in detail.
If the barriers and restrictions encountered by the student require accommodations in courses, laboratories, or examinations:
  1. The Unit prepares the Confidential Reasonable Accommodations Document (CRAD) for the SWD&SEN student and uploads it to myAccess.
  2. The SWD&SEN student and the Accessibility Advisor Professor (SKP), in a meeting (in person or remotely) which may be initiated either by the student or by the SKP, finalize the accommodations within a maximum of 5 working days, based on the Unit’s CRADand the specific requirements of the student’s studies in their Department/School.
  3. The student must notify their instructors of their accommodations exclusively through the new institutional system https://myaccess.uoa.gr, as follows:
    • the SWD&SEN student logs into the myAccess system at the beginning of each semester and selects the courses they will attend,
    • the myAccess system sends the instructors of the courses selected by the SWD&SEN student an email containing the CRAD signed by the SKP, so that appropriate measures can be taken to ensure their equal participation in the educational process and interim progress examinations,
    and
    • the SWD&SEN student logs into the myAccess system at least 5 days before the start of each examination period and selects the courses whose examinations they will take,
    • the myAccess system sends the instructors of the courses selected by the SWD&SEN student an email containing the CRAD signed by the SKP, so that appropriate measures can be taken to ensure their equal participation in the examinations.
  4. If the student is a continuing student who has not received a personalized reasonable accommodations document, they should contact the Unit again so that the process of issuing the document can proceed. If the accommodations the student has received are no longer sufficient, either due to documented changes in their disability, disorder, learning difficulty, or medical condition, or because new barriers have been identified, the student may contact the Unit again so that the entire process can be carried out from the beginning (submission of additional medical reports, a meeting with the Unit, and a meeting with the Accessibility Advisor Professor).
